A Quick Summary...
```The 70's in politics were a time of tribulation and opportunity. With women, African Americans, Native Americans, gays and lesbians fighting for equality, it was needless to say there was no calmness in the air. With the war going on in Vietnam, more and more Americans were pouring into the streets all over the nation protesting. The hippie movement was souring. A “New Right” made the people gain more skepticism the Oval Office of President Richard Nixon. Traditional family roles and conservatism was losing it’s popularity but then later came as a backlash. Other movements included the environmental movement in which the first Earth day was born in 1970. Congress had also passed the National Environmental Policy Act the same year. The Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act had followed two years after. There was also an oil crisis which brought attention to conservation. One of the most controversial topics in the political field of the 70s that is widely remembered by many is the Watergate Scandal which included President Nixon himself. Other two very well known presidents of the time were President Gerald Ford and President Jimmy Carter. President Ford was most famous for pardoning Nixon for any crimes that he committed during his presidency as well as taking over a previous presidency that Nixon had resigned from due to the Watergate Scandal. Ford’s presidency was only 4 years and then came President Jimmy Carter. President Jimmy Carter has been known as sort of an “outsider” in Washington. Throughout his presidency he had struggled to maintain the economic factors. Although he struggled with the nation’s economics he can most be remembered for his diplomatic services to outside nations such as the Israeli and Palestinian conflict at Camp David. He would later be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
