Music of the 1970s ranged anywhere from progressive rock, to funk and soul with new wave and the beginning of disco clubs. Led Zeppelin was one of the influential artists. Elvis was also performing until his death in 1977. The Beatles also broke up in 1970 creating a new wave of music to spread. Disco clubs also arose in the 1970s and brought upbeat dance music as a new sensation. Some of the most popular bands in the disco genre included; The Bee Gees and Diana Ross. There was more variety of music in this decade than any before and gave people a chance to choose what they liked and wanted to listen to. Progressive rock was a new form of rock that combined it with another form of music. This became instantly popular with the band Pink Floyd. There was also New Wave which was a more upbeat and hard guitar melodies of the 1960s music. Talking Heads and Generation X were bands known for their New Wave sensation music. Funk and soul music also developed because of the R&B in the previous generation. This music was known as freaky and psychedelic at times. Some artists include; James Brown with Earth, Wind and Fire. |
